The girls seem to be laying a little later each day - we thought we'd figured out the Rock and the Sussex were laying around 7:15 each day but nothing this morning at 7:30 or 8:30. Then DH found 2 after lunch - and one's turquoise! He thought another (Gylfie, the Sussex) might be laying a little later today since she was in the nest box when he went back out with DD. Sure enough, I went out around 1:45pm and she was in the box standing over a warm egg!
Twilight (the Barred Rock) was in there too but standing near the front of the box, so I think she's the one who laid earlier today (larger medium brown egg). The turquoise egg was laid in the nest box on the other side of the feeder - I suspect that was from Soren (the bossy lighter colored Easter Egger) since her comb looked a little redder than Digger's yesterday. Poor Digger is at the bottom of the pecking order - I doubt if Soren will let her share a nest box, maybe the bigger hens will since they don't pick on her quite as much.
It's been a fun week getting to know their personalities and checking for eggs - now we know we need to check throughout the day!
