Finally! Digger laid an egg! She was panting and kept going in the coop, checking out both nest boxes, digging in corners, then hopping out to snuggle in the dust bath with Soren and Twilight. She was acting like a first-time mom in labor, very restless, couldn't get comfortable but it was like she didn't know what to do. DD even asked if this was what it was like waiting in the hospital for someone to have a baby, as we stood outside the coop, occasionally peering in the window opposite the nest boxes to see what she was doing.
I was worried she might be eggbound, but DH said it might be her first egg, she seems a little smaller than Soren but I put that down to perhaps not getting as much to eat. Well, he was right! I can't imagine that she's less than a year old, I figured she must have laid in the fall even if she is only about 1 year old and not 2 years like the others. But this sure looks like a pullet egg (Soren's is on the right for comparison):

So I suppose we'll have a "baby shower" as DD suggested tomorrow. For now Digger just got an extra treat left over from my lunch (the shell and white of a hard-boiled egg that didn't peel well) while the others were temporarily shut up in the coop so that she could enjoy it in peace. I was surprised that they left her alone while she was laying, though Gylfie did go in and out of the coop a few times and even ate from the feeder right next to the nest box. I suppose it helped that Digger finally settled down in the nest box that the others don't use. That's fine with me, if she continues to use that one and Soren the other we'll be able to tell who laid that day (once her eggs catch up in size with Soren's), since they both lay turquoise eggs!
